Wicklow County Council on behalf of Music Generation, and Wide Open Music in association with the RTÉ NSO, is delighted to announce the much anticipated performance of Blue Bottle! Blue Bottle has been composed especially for the children participating in Music Generation Wicklow’s Choral Music Programme by Brian Irvine. The words have been written by John McIlduff and animation created by Matthew Robbins with conductor Fergus Sheil.

Commissioned by Wicklow County Council as part of the ongoing Per Cent for Art Commissions Strand.
Brian Irvine – Biography
Brian was born in Belfast. His huge body of work reflects an obsessive love of music creation in all its forms and includes operas, orchestral works, large-scale community oratorios, film scores, sonic installations, dance works as well as numerous ensemble, solo, and chamber pieces.
His music has been performed and commissioned by many international artists and organisations including: Welsh National Opera, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Moscow Chamber Players, Scottish Ballet, Joanna Macgregor (piano), Northern Sinfonia (UK), RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, NI Opera, BBC Radio 3, Homecoming Festival (Moscow), Channel Four, Red Note Ensemble (UK), Valle d’Aosta Symphony Orchestra (Italy), Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra of Chicago, ASCH trio (Russia), 4-mality Percussion Ensemble (UK), Gnessin Ensemble (Moscow), BBC Concert Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the London 2012 Olympics Festival.
Much of Brian’s output has involved close collaborations with many diverse artists from a range of disciplines including: Seamus Heaney (poet), Cy Twombly (artist,), Eduard Bersudsky (sculptor), John McIllduff (filmmaker/director), Joanna Macgregor (piano), Jari Nemenin (filmmaker/director), Joel Simon (filmmaker/animator), Alexander Kobin (piano), Matthew Robbins (animator/artist), Snow Patrol, LAU (BBC Folk Award Winners), Matthew Bourne (piano), Joe Morris (electric guitar), Ivor Cutler (poet, singer,), David Holmes (producer/composer/DJ), Keiji Haino ( electric guitar), Suzannah McCrieght (choreographer), Paul Dunmall saxophone/bagpipes), Fergus Sheil (conductor/producer), Isabelle O’Connor (piano), Roman Mints (violin), Martin Green (accordian), Geraoid Mclaughlin (poet), Keith Tippet (piano) and Aidan O’Rourke (violin).
He was the Associate Composer with the Ulster Orchestra (2007-2011) and is currently Visiting Professor of Creative Arts at the University of Ulster. In 2010 he was awarded an MBE for music composition.
